Armed with shovels, picks, and the clear determination to remove an abused garden reminiscent of an abandoned urban lot, I prevailed. Took me all day to put up weeds taller than me, and dig out metal garden spikes. I had all things creepy and crawly on me. With the steam near my house stagnant, I must have lost a pint or two of blood to mosquitoes.
One major thing I saw as large black ants everywhere. Carpenter Ants. It appears that the tall weeds kept the ground shaded and moist, allowing for a large carpenter ant colony. With the ground bare(I'll be later growing grass) it will harden and become a very inhospitable area for these large ants. Hoping they are out in the open for some birds to quickly eat them up. What ever happens, that colony is doomed.
