When I walked into my house, I saw ants on the outside of my porch. On further investigation, I found more on the roof.
I soon had to find where these ants were coming from, and after observing their habits I found they were in my tree. There was a branch very slightly touching my house. A major rule in preventing carpenter ant infestations, remove foliage against you house. The branch was cut down. Well how did they get into my tree, saw no traffic up and down the trunk, so I watched further.
They are in my neighbor's yard. There is an old mostly dead tree covered in a vine (the vine makes the tree look large and green, so it appears to be live), and the ants are traveling up that threes trunk, crossing from one branch to anther till they are in my tree and then on my house(not anymore since branch cut). I found an area where the ants are crossing, and very lightly put terro ant killer down.
Soon the Ants were gone. Now since I know they will be back, should I accidentally torch the neighbor's tree? ;)
